Wax Rocks

So, its day 4 of the challenge and things are really heating up…!! A few friends of mine had shared an idea from Pinterest with us about melted wax rocks, so when the challenge of stones came up I knew we had to give it a try… The rock needs to be hot so I was worried that Mattea or Cianna would try touch it and burn themselves so I just did this challenge with my older daughter with Maya… To be honest it’s hard to just spend one on one time with the girls and check in, so this was a nice bonding time for Maya and I… This project is so simple and so beautiful, there was just something so therapeutic about how the wax melts and how the colours flow over the rock… So, perfectly imperfect…!!!Maya just wanted to keep doing more rocks, we actually decided we want to create a colourful rock garden with all the creations… So here is the how to:

You will need:

  • A stone/rock
  • Wax crayons
  • An oven to heat the stone/rock in
  • A tray that can take the heat of rock (ie not a plastic tray)
  • Foil paper

How to create a wax rock:

  • Heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  • Put the stone or rock in the oven for 10-15min (we just a big rock, a smaller rock will take less time) …
  • Use oven gloves to remove the stone as it is hot and place it on a tray covered with foil…
  • Start colouring with the wax crayons…
  • The wax melts as you touch the stone and leaves such beautiful designs… Use as many or as little colours as you want… (I would pre peel the wrapping off the crayons as they melt quickly) …
  • Just remind the kids to be careful they don’t touch the rock as they can BURN themselves…

And that the challenge people simple yet stunning…!! Have fun with this, I know you will rock it hee hee hee…!!

love
